History in the industry and as a WCW member

I’ve spent 42 years serving rural Manitoba communities, particularly designing water supply and treatment infrastructure. I have been a member of AWWA for 39 years, including a term as Chair of AWWA-WCS and President of WCW. I founded WCW Magazine 20 years ago and continue as Committee Chair and Editor.

Typical day

Sign off on invoices, deal with HR and recruiting issues, prepare proposals & reports, review plans & specs, meeting with clients, supporting members of our WSP team.

Job Satisfaction

My Manitoba team is wonderful and my boss is in Red Deer. I communicated with him four times last year. WSP encourages employee empowerment and gives me a lot of freedom: no “command and control” micromanagement here!!

Main challenges

Finding more great people to continue the growth of our team, and finding the time to pursue all the project opportunities here in Manitoba.

Be caring – of your team members and your clients. Be passionate – give 100%. Play hard, smart and fair. And get involved: whatever you put into volunteering will be repaid tenfold.

Time away from work

Very involved with my Anglican parish church; committed to my wife Bert and our four kids; enslaved by our 1.5 acre home property in Ile-des-Chenes; watching English Premier League football when I can; and contributing to WCW through the magazine!
