The City of Red Deer is currently seeking the right person to fill the position of Construction and Maintenance Labourer. This position will perform various labouring, construction and testing duties in Water Distribution, Wastewater Collection and Stormwater Collection maintenance and repair to established procedures and Alberta Environment guidelines and standards. Operate motorized tools and equipment, and provide guidance to junior Labourers as required.

As our preferred candidate you will have:
• Grade 12 or GED Diploma.
• Must obtain Level 2 Alberta Provincial Certification in Water Distribution and/or Wastewater Collection within four years of date of hire.
• Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License at date of hire. Valid Class 3 Alberta Driver’s License with a Q endorsement within one year of date of hire.
• 3 years experience in Water Distribution and/or Wastewater Collection construction and maintenance activities.
• Ability to work within the City and Occupational Health and Safety Guidelines. Knowledge of environmental health, safety standards and regulations.
• W.H.M.I.S., First Aid, Confined Space Entry and Trenching courses are desirable.
• Ability to use various power tools, hand tools and small motorized equipment (e.g. cut-off saws, pumps, compactors etc.) is essential.
• Demonstrated ability to co-operate with colleagues as a team, to understand and follow instructions and to provide guidance and instructions, as required to junior Labourer’s.
• Must be physically fit in order to climb ladders, operate equipment, open and close valves, lift, shovel, bend and twist in awkward positions. The ability to exert frequent high physical effort in activities such as shovelling, lifting manhole covers, lifting and aligning pipe, etc. is essential.
• Ability to work outside in all types of weather and in conditions which may be noisy, dirty, wet, cold, hot and disagreeable (e.g. wastewater mains).
