The City of Red Deer is currently seeking the right person to fill the position of Construction & Maintenance Operations Lead. This position assigns personnel, equipment and contractors to complete scheduled and emergency repair and replacement of linear assets in the Stormwater Collection, Wastewater Collection and Water Distribution systems. Ensures compliance of staff to follow established policies, procedures, OH&S regulations, Engineering Design Guidelines and Contract Specifications and Provincial Approval to Operate. Specific areas of responsibility include project planning and budget assistance as well as supervising, training and leading Construction staff.

As our preferred candidate you will have:
• Unrestricted Water Distribution 4 or Wastewater Collection Level 4 as well as a minimum of Level 2 in the other discipline.
• Grade 12
• 6 years minimum in a Level 3 or 4 system while employed in the Water Distribution and / or Wastewater Collection discipline.
• 2 years of supervisory experience and demonstrated knowledge of appropriate supervision of a respectful and inclusive work place.
• Supervisory experience in underground construction preferred.
• Must pass Hazard Assessment, Supervisory Ground Disturbance, WHMIS, First Aid, H2S, Confined Space, Driver Training and other courses as determined by the City or Provincial requirements.
• Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
• Well-developed verbal and written communications skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
• Experience in construction, maintenance and repair of water, sanitary, storm sewer and road assets.
• Strong knowledge of utility location best practices, methods and procedures.
• Strong computer aptitude including demonstrated proficiency with computer software.
• Ability to work with considerable independence in supervising activities and making efficient use of significant expenditures (up to $30,000/shift).
• Ability to troubleshoot problems and exercise critical thinking.
• Ability to achieve 7.2 (approx.70hrs) continuing education credits to maintain required certifications.
• Demonstrated safety skills in the use of specialized equipment including respirators, and air quality monitors. Work may require use of harnesses and hoisting equipment.
