History in the industry and as a WCW member

Started working for a water treatment company right out of high school. Switched to municipal waterworks after 18 years and have been loving it ever since. Currently, sit on the board of the AWWOA

Typical day

There’s no such thing as a typical day. One day I will sit in the office doing paperwork, the next I’ll be repairing a water main, the next I’ll be hooking up irrigation equipment to pump out a sewage lagoon.

Job Satisfaction

I love the fact that there is no typical day. In a 16 year career in municipal water, I’ve never been in a “rut”. Every day is new and different.

Main challenges

Staffing issues. I have too much work for one but not enough for two. I get stretched pretty thin sometimes.

Set goals. To paraphrase Robert Heinlein, without clearly defined objectives, one becomes enslaved by performing daily trivia. I can look back at my career and see a number of important accomplishments such as developing an accurate asset inventory.

Time away from work

I volunteer a tremendous amount. I’m a volunteer Fire Chief, President of the golf course, Treasurer of the Lions Club, and sit on numerous boards.
