History in the industry and as a WCW member

My post-graduation water industry experience began when I was hired at what was then known as UMA Engineering as a water/wastewater engineer. It was during my first year that I was exposed to Western Canada Water after being voluntold as the Young Professionals Committee Chair for WCS AWWA. Since then, I have been active in the Winnipeg WCW Conference Planning committee in addition to volunteer work with WCS AWWA.

Typical day

There’s no such thing as a typical day in the consulting industry. I do any and every water industry related task from proposal writing to design to project management as needed.

Job Satisfaction

That there is no such thing as a typical day! I’m exposed to new challenges all the time.

Main challenges

I strongly prefer to process a question before responding, but sometimes, you have to think on your feet.

Career Highlights/Mentors

I was fortunate to work with strong female engineering leaders during my university co-operative terms who made female leadership in traditionally male-dominated professions commonplace. I’ve also worked with my current supervisor for almost my entire post-graduate career, and he has always challenged me to do more.

Advice

Accept challenges! Stretch goals can seem incredibly frustrating, but it helps you grow your skillset.

Time away from work

Reading, binge watching television shows, pretending to write a novel, going to comic-cons with my friends and island-hopping in the Caribbean
