Speakers Announced for Liquid Assets 2013

Western Canada Water Association is pleased to announce an extraordinary lineup of speakers for the 2013 Annual Conference and Exhibition “Liquid Assets,” Sept. 17-20, in Edmonton, Alberta — the Honourable Diana McQueen, Dr. Peter Gleick and Executive Vice President of Sunshine Oilsands Dave Sealock.

Our liquid assets in Western Canada reminds us of the value of one of nature’s most abundant and precious resource — water. We all act as stewards of this valuable life-giving gift.

Our three keynote speakers each have a voice in how our region manages our water to meet the needs of citizens, the environment and the economy.

The Honourable Diana McQueen

Diana McQueenWCW is excited to bring a strategic government partner for water management to the conference as a keynote spaker.

Diana McQueen, Minister of Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, was elected to her second term of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in April 2012.

She also served as Minister of Environment and Water, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Energy and the Minister of the Environment, and as co-chair of Climate Change Central, a non-profit organization.

Dr. Peter Gleick

Peter GleickThe Annual Conference and Exhibition will also feature the internationally acclaimed water expert, Dr. Peter Gleick, director and president of the Pacific Institute for Studies in Development, Environment, and Security in Oakland, California.

Dr. Gleick received a 2003 MacArthur Fellowship award for his work addressing the critical connections between water and human health. He has written numerous articles, journals and books including the new book, “Bottled and Sold: The Story Behind Our Obsession with Bottle Water.”

Dave Sealock, Executive Vice President of Sunshine Oilsands, Ltd.

David SealockThe extraction of crude oil from the Athabascan Oil Sands requires strategic partnerships between the government, private companies and other stakeholders. The mining projects also have an impact on water management in these areas.

Mr. Sealock is responsible for strategic corporate operations for Sunshine Oilsands, Ltd. He holds responsibility for the company’s various objectives and activities including health, safety and the environment, key consideration in these mining operations.
