Job Information: With over 100 years of experience, EPCOR Water Canada works with industry, municipalities and communities to design, build, finance and operate water and wastewater treatment plants, distribution and collection systems. We serve more than 85 communities and industrial sites in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan, making sure that the water exceeds public health, environmental and industrial requirements.
EPCOR has one (1) temporary full-time position available up to 12 months!
The Technologist, Process Development is accountable for operating and maintaining our pilot plant facility and for analyzing water samples to support ongoing applied research activities. Related activities include assisting with method development and experimental design.

Detailed Description:

Reporting to the Manager, Process Development Team, this position is accountable for, but not limited to:

• Operating and maintaining the pilot plant facility while ensuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. This includes:
o Producing reliable data
o Assisting with development of experimental procedures and methods
o Carrying out prescribed experimental procedures including laboratory analyses on water samples
• Providing input to the Manager, Process Development Team business plans and directions.
• Following experimental procedures within established timelines and with sufficient precision to fulfill experimental objectives.
• Maintaining training to use the laboratory and pilot plant equipment safely.
• Validating experimental data to ensure accuracy and precision.
• Troubleshooting pilot plant operations.

Job Requirements:

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• Two Year Diploma in Engineering Technology (Chemical or Environmental Sciences) is required.
• 4 – 6 years of directly related experience that includes water treatment, analysis (laboratory and/or process), and pilot facility operation.
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures and process-related malfunctions.
• Knowledge of water quality issues, water treatment, and analytical procedures.
• Ability to troubleshoot and develop experimental or analytical methods.
• Familiarity with basic statistical techniques for data analysis.
• Able to meet the physical demands of the position (able to carry up to 30kg, climb stairs, and able to wear respirator masks).
The following would be considered an asset:

• Training as a water or wastewater operator.
• Analytical experience in a laboratory setting.
• Experience supporting applied research.
• Hands-on experience related to plumbing or maintenance of mechanical equipment.
The successful candidate for this position must be highly motivated, demonstrate a strong work ethic, and possess exceptional time management and prioritization skills. Our ideal candidate must have the ability to work effectively within a small team dynamic and demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to listen to others’ ideas and express one’s own ideas in a logical and clear manner.

Attention to detail is a must, especially in following established procedures accompanied by the ability to also think creatively and be innovative. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to team work, acting with integrity and promoting continuous improvement.

Class: T2
Wage: $40.19 – $47.94 per hour
Hours of work: 7.5 hours per day, 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

• A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
• To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
