The District of Peachland, a vibrant and growing community of approximately 5,400 located on the shores of Okanagan Lake between Kelowna and Penticton, invites applications for the position of Water Treatment/Distribution Operator.

The District of Peachland is currently completing detailed design of a new water treatment facility, set to be commissioned in early 2020. An exciting opportunity is available to a qualified Water Treatment Operator to provide input with final design considerations prior to construction. Upon completion of construction, the successful applicant will work under the direction of the Operations Leadhand and Director of Operations to operate and maintain the facility. This position will include both water treatment as well as water distribution duties.

Duties of the Water Treatment/Distribution Operator relate to a variety of responsibilities, including:
• Maintain and evaluate material, equipment and supplies for continuous operation of the water treatment facility.
• Interpret municipal, provincial and federal government standards and regulations to provide a continuous supply of adequately treated water.
• Assist with operational and capital budget costs and provide input into the preparation of budgets.
• Perform maintenance and repair functions on water systems including pressure reducing stations, pumps, valves, pipes, water main leaks, water meters and hydrants.
• Respond to concerns of the public, resolve emergency water issues, ensure agreement is reached with regards to responsibility and provide information and assistance in repair options.
• Administer the District’s cross connection control program, review cross connection tests and perform testing where required ensuring proper back flow protection.
• Required to be on stand-by one out of every three weeks.

• High School Graduation
• Chlorine Handling Certification through the BC Water and Waste Association (BCWWA or acceptable equivalent)
• BCEOP Level III Water Treatment (Level IV preferred)
If Level III, employee will be expected to work towards and achieve Level IV Certification within one year
• BCEOCP level II Water Distribution
• Confined Space Entry Certification
• Cross Connection Control Tester or Administration Certificate preferred

This is a CUPE Local #608 position with a pay rate range of $32.50 – $33.32 per hour and a benefits package.
